Special Exhibition for the 8th Anniversary of “The Taiwan New Art Union” (TNAU)
Curator/ Yung-Yen Tsui
This exhibition will showcase illustrators who also enjoy painting and are or would like to get involved in the fine arts field.
All through history, the forms of illustrations have been continuously changing: from the miniature decorations of the Bible in the Middle Ages to Giotto’s frescos until today. Illustration has undergone a deep transformation into a universe of different expressions, styles and forms that are applied to the visual communication across borders, the world over. Some of these, especially those produced for editorial purposes, have such espressive qualities that they may easily slip into a display of non-illustrative contemporary art. As a matter of fact, since the word “illustration” has come to have today’s meaning, artists and painters have freely moved in and out from these two different environments. When the thin line that separates fine art and illustration gets blurred, what’s the special message that those illustrators will convey in their art works? That’s what we long to see and fathom in this exhibition.
