UNICORN DAY 2020

Hello and welcome to Unicorn Day 2020!
In order to get distracted from our forced anti-Covid-19 reclusion, it's nice to celebrate this yearly recurrence when we pretend to believe in something that's unbeliavable, yet is nice to fantasise about.

Actually this is a horse I painted in 2017, but it has now a streamlined horn which someone might take as a definite proof this is a real Unicorn Icon, thus worth worshipping.
Do as you please.
Happy Day!

HORSE!

My new painting for the 'Chinese Zodiac' series.
Title? "Horse"
Acrylic, oil and a tad of futurism on canvas.
60x40cm

The finished painting is going to be slightly different in its mood: colourful contrast will give way to some more pictorial unpredictability.
Let's wait and see.

The POPULAR RED HORSE of the POPLARS

A new work (in progress) this time painted on a slice of a walnut tree which had to be felled because ill.
Cutting a maybe 70 or 80 years old tree is always a sad thing. Part of it will be burnt in a fireplace during Winter. This remaining slice will probably decorate that very fireplace where the rest will end up in smoke. CARPE DIEM...

The Popular Red Horse of the Poplars is inspired by one of those tales that appear in dreams and no-one knows where they come from.

Acrylic, shellac and oil on walnut wood. Approximately 50x25cm

EQUILIBRIUM (2) – 平衡 (2)

The Barcaldine Lighthouse, built by mistake in 1925 in the outskirts of the small town bearing the same name in West Queensland, Australia, has become synonymous with uncertainty or instability in the locals’ jargon. This is due to the fact that since its inauguration, the lighthouse beam which, as for all similar structures should have a regular frequency clearly indicated in nautical maps, instead shines in strange and irregular patterns that have never been solved or clearly explained even after two major refitting attempts in 1935 and 1965.
The lighthouse has become one of the least known landmarks in Australia, even though the famous ‘Mayday Shearer’s Festival’ is held here, in the same place which saw the birth of the Australian Labor Party in 1891.

Acrylic and oil on canvas – 壓克力顏料,油畫顏料,畫布 – 20x20cm (7.9×7.9″)

Of CUBISM, HORSES and CHARMS

"Something on the way to...

Even though there isn't any direct witness record of the event, it's now become an indisputable truth."

Cubism has been an exeptional art movement that has changed forever the way we look at things. It's been a transformation that has influenced design architecture, graphics ever since. It's also made us think of ourselves under a different angle. Cubism just happened unexpectedly when Europe opened its eyes on Africa and stopped looking down to it.
Trying new things can be fun and makes one's life more entertaining.

If you like this small painting, you can even wear it as an oval charm. Just check here

Original painting: 20x20cm acrylic and oil on canvas
First displayed at my exhibition 'Equilibrium' at ANADEMA

RED PALOMO

My new painting "Red Palomo"
2016 Acrylic and oil on canvas 150x100cm (59x39.4")

Palomo was Simon Bolivar's horse.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palomo_%28horse%29
Red Palomo was his distant cousin who refused to be tamed and ran away on the Colombian hills never to be caught again. He followed his cousin from a distance till Palomo died for exhaustion in the Hacienda Mulaló and promised to fulfill his deathwish which he promptly forgot and carried on happily ever after.

This paintng will be displayed in my new exhibition 'Coincidences' in Taichung, Taiwan this coming May. News will follow.
