GREAT LEADER MAO TSE TUNG - WIP 2

Another step in the painting process of my Mao Tse Tung' portrait. Today is the day details must be added to the basic field colours. Details might somehow contradict the overall stylization of the figure, but will still contribute to the painting's final mood and personality by supplying much more information about the portrayed character.

Some of the original turquoise hue will still show through the colour gaps, making all surface tones more vibrant, especially in the red and skin coloured areas.

After this one is finished, I'll start working on  a new portrait. My sketch is already done and the canvas is taut.

GREAT LEADER MAO TSE TUNG - WIP

Having some fun with history: on the day that a new President has been confirmed in the US, I have begun work on a portrait of one of the "Great leaders" of the XX century.
The subtitle of the series is going to be "In the name of progress".

Piazza del Duomo in Milano yesterday morning at 8:30. The virus is incumbent on many a mind, yet Rrubie the Bird is undeterred in her resolution. Her trust is inspiring and the populace is thankful in spite of biased fearmongers.

LUIGI FASOT - The INVISIBLE MENACE 2020

The invisible menace

Ten years ago I made this painting dealing with an invisible threat that afflicted the city of Milan in 1865.
Now we are living those times again, so let's hope that Blackbird Luigi Fasot will help us one more time:

"Louis Fasot the blackbird foiled the mysterious and invisible menace that lashed out with no damage to appurtenances, animals or people all over the land. In the third half-decade the townfolks placed. MDCCCLXXX"

HISTORY 4 - 2000 – Defeat of advertisements

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by ads? 
Their pervasive presence online allows us to enjoy free access to an immense amount of contents, but the the price we have to pay is their annoying insistence. A few years ago I painted this image and wrote the following story, inspired to one of those marble plates we find around our cities, reminding us of memorable yet forgotten events that took place sometime in history.

FACEBOOK ART CHALLENGE 2015 - Day 1

The Artists Sefano Misesti and Yungyen Tsui who are also my friends have politely invited me to the Facebbok #ArtChallenge 2015. Each artist has to publish three images a day for five days, suggesting also a new artist each day. My first suggestion is the famous Italian illustrator Costanza Favero: it's your turn now!

For Day 1 I have chosen a few images from my 2010-2011 exhibition 'Milano in Bilico', 'Milan on the Wobble', an ironic, surreal and poetic collection of stories on the City of Milan.

LADY O'HARE - 奧黑爾女士

Lady O'Hare was born in Ballyharry on the East coast of Ireland around 1440. She was an exuberant child and grew with a strong-minded and independent character that didn't fit well with the rigid structure of her clan. She was sent to Italy to learn some manners and travelled around Tuscany until she met the famous dancing master Guglielmo Ebreo da Pesaro (1420-1484) and settled with him in Milano in 1465 when he was put in charge of the celebrations for the wedding of the Duke of Bari with Eleonora d'Aragona. She called her first octuplets Coinín Athbheochan I, Coinín Athbheochan II, Coinín Athbheochan III, Coinín Athbheochana I, Coinín Athbheochan IV, Coinín Athbheochana II, Coinín Athbheochan V, Coinín Athbheochana III.

* Coinín Athbheochan means 'Renaissance Rabbit' in Gaelic.

HISTORY 54 - 1494 YE VALUES' DOWNFALL

To the Eester Rabbit who, in that Holyest Daye assured relyef to the city of Mylan after the sudden and catastrophyc values' downfall of '94, moste of the citizenry and master Leonardo gratitude and glædnesse with this stone here expressed.

HISTORY 53 - 2014 - VISITOR'S VISA

In a moment of dire consequences, Susumu 進, the Japanese Koi, undertook the perilious challenge to follow the bureaucratic path and get all the necessary documents to come and visit the city. In order to combine business and pleasure, he took this chance to help solve the catastrophic moral failure affecting the labour market, without asking for whatsoever reward or monetary remuneration. To him go the citizenry's enduring affection and gratitude.

HISTORY 26 - 1401 The Transcendence of Incertitudeness

In honour therof Anapsidanne the Tortoise that upon thos’yeeres of incertitudeness and vacuite of man’spirites, thus wisheth Milan to escorte at slowe thus secure a pace, towardes the future, the burgermeister, the hodmen, the peasantry and the clergie alle bestouen hiere.

HISTORY 21 - 1419 The Great joke

To Alburnanne the fish who, on the first day of April, crushed the obstinate attempt of an assault to the city by enemy forces camouflaged to sow discord and confusion in the unwarlike populace with unfounded rumours on His Highness the Duke’s morality and by means of other most grievious whisperings that put Him in a corner, the wise creature, then corrected the truths and restored for the posterity the right story of the Man, His Higness Duke Filippo Maria, His court and those who followed it, to remember her noble deeds laid this stone here.
